November Treasure Box
Dec. 5th, 2019 08:02 amSomehow I think I missed doing my favorites list for October!! Oh well...
Autumn came and went before I had time to really, really sink my teeth in. It snowed before Samhain and most of the remaining season was also snowy. The past few days feel like autumn again. Just been trying to go on walks and enjoy it as much as possible.
WITCH'S COTTAGE PIE-my own special recipe with Irish cheese nomnomnomnomnom
LOST SOULS by Poppy Z. Brite-At work we were discussing our favorite books from when we were teenagers. Aside from Flowers in the Attic, The Outsiders, Mists of Avalon, another book that really made an impact on me at the time was Lost Souls. Then I realized that I didn't actually own it, and that I haven't read it since I was in my teens.
Naturally, I had to get another copy and have a re-read.
Oh, dear.
This is actually kind of terrible.
Of course, it appealed to me as a teen when I was fairly sheltered and naive, but now, reading it as an adult, the sex and even the way women are portrayed in this book just seem sorta ridiculous. And I have to chuckle at the constant Bauhaus references...yeah, much of the book is very repetitive and in a sense, it feels dated. That being said, it was fun to re-read and reminded me not to look back with rose colored glasses LOL
FAERIES ORACLE BY BRIAN FROUD- A few years back, I gave some oracle and tarot decks away and this was one of them Something kept telling me I should have kept it so I decided to repurchase another before they go out of print. I love fae themed decks, and obviously his artwork is legendary and connects me to certain memories of childhood.

TWIN TRIBES- These guys are from Texas and pretty fucking good. Their second album (which I've already pre-ordered) comes out this month, but I recently discovered them from a Illinois college radio station internet broadcast. Anyway, they are on tour and will be playing Austin later this month. I guess I missed the Chicago show :(
DOWNTON ABBEY- I'd seen a few episodes here and there but was never a dedicated viewer. Decided to watch from the beginning, and it's been a nice way to relax after stressful days at work. I love the complex characters in this show!! Also, the costume department did an amazing job <3
